About Damariscotta and Mid-Coast Maine
We think that the Damariscotta area is the best place in the world in which to live, work and play. But of course we're biased, we see it every day. We see the majestic beauty of the Atlantic Ocean pounding our granite coast. We see the calm dawn rising over one of our tidal estuaries. We hear the song of the loon echoing over our clear lakes and we watch eagles riding the thermals over our lush forests.
But its more than natural beauty that makes this a special place. There's something about knowing just about everyone you meet, at least by sight if not by name. There's something about the kind of place where people will wave to a perfect stranger they pass on the road, as if to simply acknowledge and value that persons existence. We don't live in a town, we live in a community.
We enjoy the simple pleasures of an unhurried life. We're not a big city but we do have comfortable restaurants, interesting shops and wonderful galleries. We have excellent schools, an outstanding health care center and a new library. There are many great recreational opportunities including world class sailing in the gulf of Maine, excellent fishing in both salt and fresh water and a local golf course among others.
We have an active arts community, several artisan co-ops and local theatre groups.
Several local groups are working hard to preserve our natural environment while others look for ways to improve our services and business climate.
